# Process Monitor

> Review background computations, inspect failures, and stop queued or running work.

> For the complete documentation index, see [llms.txt](https://docs.valar.space/llms.txt).

Open **View processes** from the activity icon in the application header, or open
**Process monitor** from the command palette. The monitor shows the processes
available in your current workspace, including their status, elapsed time and
failure details. Routine automatic ground-station-pass and AOI refreshes are
excluded from this list.

## Stop a computation

1. Find the queued or running process you want to stop.
2. Choose **Stop**. This requires permission to manage jobs and a process that
supports cancellation; the control is absent for completed processes.
3. Wait while the button shows **Stopping…**. This acknowledges your request,
not that the computation has already stopped.
4. Check the final outcome. **Stopped** confirms cancellation. A process that
finishes before cancellation takes effect can instead report its completed result.

If the request fails, read the displayed error and retry when appropriate. Refreshing
or closing the monitor does not itself stop a computation. Stopping a process does
not disable a recurring task or remove results already saved; manage the task
separately under [Task Automation](https://docs.valar.space/features/task-automation.md).

## Understand the outcome

* **Blocked by input** means required inputs prevented the work from proceeding.
Correct the indicated input before trying again.
* A failed process includes its available diagnostic. Notifications can shorten
long messages; use the process details for the full explanation.
* **Status unavailable** or a loading error does not establish success or failure.
Check again before launching duplicate work.
* A stopped process retains its final elapsed time.

For orbit determination, **Review saved OD result** opens the result retained by
that process, including one outside the current solutions date filter. Some older
jobs and dry runs have no saved result. See [saved residual checks](https://docs.valar.space/features/orbit-determination.md#review-saved-residual-checks)
for interpretation and approval requirements.
