Timeline

The Timeline shows the latest pass result for the spacecraft and ground stations you select. It combines a shared time axis with one lane per station, and keeps the result state visible while a calculation runs or refreshes. Route: /passes/timeline

Open the page via the Timeline tab in the Passes area’s tab bar, alongside the Table, Stations, and Coverage Map tabs.

Page Layout

Use the toolbar to choose the spacecraft, time range, and ground stations included in the result. The time-range menu provides Next 24h (default), Next 3 days, and Next 7 days. Choose Wide or Compact to change the amount of horizontal detail on the time axis, or click Export to open the schedule-export dialog. The main pane shows the result state above the timeline. When a result is available, each requested station has a header row and its spacecraft pass rows beneath it. Click a station header to collapse or expand its rows. Click a pass bar to inspect its spacecraft, station, AOS, LOS, duration, and maximum elevation when that value is available.

Lifecycle Result States

The timeline does not treat an absent current result as a successful empty result. It requests a result for the current selection and tells you whether it is still being calculated, available, stale, degraded, or unavailable.

Status	What you see	What it means	What to do
No current result	The timeline begins in a loading state while the selected request is submitted.	No completed result is available for this selection yet.	Wait for Computing passes… to finish.
Computing passes…	A loading toast and a skeleton timeline.	The first result for the current selection is being calculated.	Wait for the result, or leave the page and return later.
Current result	Pass bars and station lanes are shown.	A completed result is available for the selected spacecraft, stations, and time range.	Read the bars and station outcomes.
No passes available	The page or an evaluated station lane reads No passes available.	The selection was evaluated successfully and no visibility window was found. This is different from a failed calculation.	Nothing is required; adjust the filters or time range if you want to search elsewhere.
Current pass result is stale	A status banner reads Current pass result is stale. Refresh to update the timeline. with Retry.	The displayed result is older than the current freshness policy.	Click Retry to request a fresh result.
Pass result is degraded	A status banner reads Pass result is degraded. Some station lanes may be unavailable. with Retry.	The result is available, but one or more station outcomes could not be fully evaluated.	Read the affected station lane and retry after fixing the station configuration if needed.
Couldn’t refresh passes	An alert reads Couldn’t refresh passes. Showing the last current result. with Retry.	A refresh failed, but the last completed result is still available and remains visible.	Click Retry; do not treat the preserved result as newly computed data.
Failed to load passes	An error page reads Failed to load passes and offers Retry.	No usable current result is available because the initial request or run failed.	Click Retry. If the failure persists, contact support.

No passes available is a completed, successful empty result. Failed to load passes means the timeline could not obtain a usable result. The two states require different responses.

Every Requested Station Gets a Lane

Every station you select gets its own lane on the timeline — always, whether or not it has any passes to show. A lane is never dropped just because a station has nothing to report, because “nothing to report” is not one situation; it is three different ones, and the timeline tells you which:

Outcome	What the lane shows	What it means	What to do
Evaluated, with passes	The station’s pass bars along the timeline.	The station was checked and has visibility windows in this range.	Nothing — read the passes as usual.
Evaluated, no passes	A lane reading No passes available.	The station was fully checked against your selection and genuinely has nothing overhead in this window.	Nothing — this is a clear result, not a failure.
Excluded	A muted lane and a notice with the station’s explanation.	The station’s configuration — most often its elevation mask — could not be evaluated, so no result could be computed for it.	Fix the station configuration, then click Retry. For an elevation-mask issue, use the Stations page to re-upload the survey.
Not evaluated	A muted lane reading Couldn’t evaluate this station.	The computation did not reach a conclusion for this station.	Click Retry; contact support if it persists.

An excluded station’s message describes the station’s own configuration problem rather than a generic failure, so it names what to fix instead of just saying something went wrong. If the message doesn’t make sense, re-check the station’s elevation mask on the Stations page.

Computed and Booked Passes

The timeline can show two kinds of pass bar:

Pass type	What you see	What you can do
Computed candidate	A newly calculated pass bar, shown separately from saved bookings.	Open the bar and click Book to save it as a pass.
Booked pass	A saved pass with a BOOKED badge in its details.	Review its timing and geometry; it is already booked.

Computed candidates and booked passes can appear together. A No passes available result refers to the completed current calculation; it does not erase booked passes that are listed separately.

Why This Distinction Matters

An empty result, an excluded station, and a failed refresh require different actions. Because every requested station gets a lane and a stated outcome, a clear result and a station configuration problem never look the same. Because a failed refresh preserves the last current result, you can continue reading the previous result while deciding whether to retry.
